Singapore criminals blackmail using webcam extortion
Criminals in Singapore are using webcam extortion to make money. As HLN reports, they use attractive women to lure in male victims and convince them to strip. Without the knowledge of the victims, the crooks take screenshots and/or record the chat and threaten to release it to the web if the victim does not pay their fee. The police in Singapore say 50 cases of the act were reported in 2012, which is up from the 11 cases the previous year.
