Apple CEO Tim Cook officially announced the much-anticipated iPhone5 Wednesday at an event in San Francisco.

According to Dan Moren of MacWorld, iPhone 5 has a Retina display of 326ppi. Every iPhone to date has had a 3.5" screen, and the new one has a 4" screen and 1136x640 resolution and 16:9 aspect ratio. At  7.6mm thick, it's the thinnest phone ever made by Apple.

Moren also reports there's now a fifth row of icons on the Home screen and room for more apps on every screen. "All the software that comes on the iPhone 5 has been updated to take advantage of larger display. Everything shows more data," Moren reported on his live blog.

According to Scott Stein of CNET, the Calendar app will show more events and there's a full 5-day week view. Also iWork apps all re-done to work with the bigger display.
