Showing a good sense of humor as well as an excellent taste in television shows, the official Twitter account of the Center for Disease Control has released a Game of Thrones-themed e-card warning people about the approaching cold weather.
The front of the e-card shows a map of North America, subtly done in the style of Game of Thrones' old-timey opening credits map, with a giant snowflake overlay with the words: “Winter is Coming... Be Ready” — in Game of Thrones font, of course. Open the card, and it contains several useful tips on how to stay safe this winter, including how to weatherize your home, prepare your vehicle, assemble an emergency kit, and stay up to date on hazardous weather conditions.
This isn’t the first time the CDC has used pop culture to educate the public. The savvy department has a whole section of their website devoted to zombie apocalypse preparedness because, as their director Dr. Ali Khan puts it, “If you are generally well equipped to deal with a zombie apocalypse you will be prepared for a hurricane, pandemic, earthquake, or terrorist attack.” It appears we can now add “white walkers” to the list as well!Do you think this card is a clever idea?
