October 28, Team Adam singers Tessanne Chin and Ashley Dubose were paired to sing against one another on The Voice 2013 knockout rounds. Ashley opened up the battle with her rendition of “Hey Soul Sister” by Train. At rehearsals, Adam warned Ashley of over embellishing the song. Ashley chose the song for its fun, upbeat sound. The singer took the stage with the upbeat song, bringing the audience to their feet.
Tessanne came out first with their rendition of “Stronger” by Kelly Clarkson. She chose the song because she loves the message, and she wanted to showcase her voice in a specific way. At rehearsals, she found that she couldn’t hold her notes as her voice was a bit hoarse. However, Adam thought that at her worse, Tessanne still did a good job. When Tessanne hit the stage, she pulled out no stops, and received a standing ovation from her coach.
Christina Aguilera thought that Ashley gave the best performance she could, and thought that Tessanne did an excellent job. Cee Lo loved both singers and when it was time to make a choice, Adam went with Tessanne.
