The Walking Dead is adding a Southland star to the Season 4 cast in a major role!
Michael Cudlitz, who played Officer John Cooper on recently canceled cop drama Southland, is joining the cast of Walking Dead Season 4, according to TV Line. The announcement comes as part of the Walking Dead panel at New York Comic Con this weekend.
So who will Michael be playing? The answer is: Sgt. Abraham Ford, a pivotal character in the comic books. In the comics, Abraham is an Army vet and sports coach prior to the outbreak, and he becomes Rick's right-hand man.
Michael has already been shooting his role in Georgia for several weeks, but the news has somehow been kept on the DL until now. “I was laying low because [Abraham has] a very iconic look,” Michael explains.
"It would be very easy for somebody to put the pieces together if they saw me strolling around [near the show's set]," says the 48-year-old Michael, who has also had recurring roles on 24, Prison Break, and Lost. "So I was staying very close to the hotel. And I didn’t hang out with any of the other cast members." We appreciate his restraint!
What can Michael reveal about his role, which is likely to begin sometime midseason? "Abraham is someone who comes with a lot of emotional baggage," the actor divulges. "And he’s on a mission."
But you might not want to get too attached to his character. "There’s no guarantee of how long or how short it will be, which is one of the things I actually find pretty exciting about the job after being locked into Southland for so many years," Michael says. "But [Abraham] is very important in the comic, so I imagine even if it is short, it’ll be bright."
We can't wait to see him on the show, regardless of how long he manages to survive.
