Katherine Jackson has given her first televised interview since granddaughter Paris Jackson attempted suicide this past June.
The 83-year-old Jackson family matriarch spoke exclusively to 60 Minutes Australia over the weekend, revealing that she believes the 15-year-old tried to take her own life partly because she missed her father.
She said Paris had photos of Michael all over her room, but after meeting with a life coach she was advised to take down all the photos of her famous father. Apparently after that neither Katherine or Paris’s siblings saw the attempt coming, noting that Paris must have been really suffering and “we didn’t know it.”
“I think she might have (tried to commit suicide). I don’t think she knew how to, but yes it is. But when Michael died, Paris was screaming and crying and saying I want to go with you daddy, I don’t want to live without you.”
She heartbreakingly told of how hard it was for Paris to let go after he father died, explaining “They (Michael’s kids) went back in that morgue where Michael was about 10 times, hugging Michael and kissing him and you know he was dead but they were still doing that.”
The teen is still seeking treatment but is “doing better” since she took 20 ibuprofen tablets and cut her wrists in an attempted suicide bid earlier this summer.
Katherine’s comments come around the 12:40 mark in the interview.
