The first trailer for Matthew McConaughey’s The Dallas Buyers Club came out Tuesday and boy is it powerful.
Matthew plays Ron Woodruff, a hard living Texas cowboy who in the mid ’80s is diagnosed with AIDS and given 30 days to live. Not willing to accept the limited treatment Texas hospitals had to ofter. Woodruff set up his own pipeline from Mexico of alternative medications, using illegal means to import unapproved drugs and treat other AIDS victims in Dallas.
The 43-year-old actor famously lost 38 pounds from his usual buff physique to portray the dying Woodruff. And he wasn’t the only one to physically transform for the film. Jared Leto plays an HIV positive transsexual and the actor admitted he basically starved himself to drop the 30 pounds he needed to in order to portray someone in the last stages of AIDS.
The film is set for release December 6 and McConaughey’s performance is already generating Oscar buzz.
