Vampire Diariesstar Rick Cosnett (Dr. Wes Maxfield) has just been cast in the CW’s new pilot for Flash, the Arrow spin-off — good news for the Arrow-verse, potentially bad news for the TVD-verse. Who will Rick be playing and what does this mean for TVD?
Entertainment Weekly reports that Rick will be playing Eddie Thawne, “a star detective who recently transferred to Central City and harbors a dark secret.” Sounds like a perfect fit — dark secrets are Dr. Wes’ specialty, too! Rick joins a pretty exciting cast. In addition to Grant Gustin, who will play the central role of Barry “Flash” Allen, the cast includes Danielle Panabaker and Jesse L. Martin. Could this be the CW’s next big hit?
If the answer to the previous question is “yes,” then what does that mean for our beloved Dr. Wes? While the CW has been known to show some serious consideration for actors appearing on two separate shows (don’t forget that Daniel Gillies splits his time between The Originals and Canada’s Saving Hope), we don’t think this bodes well for Dr. Wes.
As a quasi-villain in a TVD landscape currently making room for bigger and badder villains, we’re not sure how much room he has to grow as a character. Basically, his storyline may soon be coming to an end, which makes us sad because he delights us with his unique combination of gruesome gleefulness and matter-of-fact thinking. Luckily, we will be seeing more Dr. Wes soon if these on-set photos of him with co-stars Candice Accola (Caroline Forbes), Ian Somerhalder (Damon Salvatore). and Michael Trevino (Tyler Lockwood) is anything to go by.
Are you excited for Flash? Do you think this spells the end for Dr. Wes? Sound off in the comments below!
