Two days until The Vampire Diariesblows our minds with its 100th episode. What did the creative masterminds behind the episode have to tease about the milestone installment? Executive producers Julie Plec and Caroline Dries spoke to Zap2it about what we can expect Season 5, Episode 11 (“500 Years of Solitude”) to deliver.
"It's a definite game-changer," Julie said. "It's deliberately and beautifully nostalgic. There's some sweet, sexy romance, some pretty high-stakes shenanigans, and a lot of things that are going to turn people's lives inside out as we move forward. It's both a celebration of the 100 episodes that preceded it and a big shift in the series moving forward."
We’ve heard a lot about the nostalgia of the ep — and we’re ready to welcome many a familiar face return — but we’re especially intrigued by this mention of a major game-changer. Could this be a reference to Katherine’s possible death? Or is there something else going on? Going by the twist ending we’ve been promised, we’re leaning (read: hoping) towards the latter.
And what is this we hear about a “sexy romance.” Has Delena already worked things out? (Doubtful.) Or could this refer to a Steferine development? It’s hard to be sexy on your deathbed, but if anyone can pull it off, it’s Katherine. There’s also the burgeoning Beremy romance to consider. We haven’t seen much from these two since they finally got together following Bonnie’s quasi-resurrection. And, of course, we are still holding out hope for a Klaroline hookup now that we know Klaus is going to appear in the episode and that Caroline will indulge in some “scandalous behavior.” Basically, this is a show full of potential sexy romances waiting to take center stage.
What did Caroline have to say about the ep? "We for sure wanted it to be nostalgic. We wanted to make it for the fans who have been with the show from the beginning," Caroline said. "So they'll get the references, specific scenes, and lines that we put in there as a love letter to the fans. It's to show them how much we appreciate them. But it will be shocking and fun, also."
Aww. We’re excited to see references to TVD’s past — and can’t wait to play spot the nod. Is it possible to be over-hyped for this episode? We sure hope not.
Which couple do you think will be indulging in sexy romance? And how will the game change in this ep? Share your theories in the comments below!Catch the next episode of The Vampire Diaries on Thursday, January 23, 2014 at 8 p.m. ET on the CW, followed by an all-new episode of Reign.
