Did you think the good people over at TLC had run out of outrageous ideas for their notoriously outrageous reality TV shows? Ha! Never! TLC’s just getting going on the crazy train if the channel’s latest jewel in the crown is any indication. The shiny new addition is called — we kid you not — Sex Sent Me to the ER.
The four-part (four-part?!) series chronicles real-life emergency room visits dealing with issues straight from the bedroom. The show debuted on December 28 but, never fear, we’re about 99.9 percent sure it’ll be on a perpetual cycle of oh-god-why-can’t-I-look-away on TLC (and sister channel Discovery Fit & Health where it re-premieres on Friday, January 3 at 10p.m./9 p.m. CT).
To make Sex Sent Me to the ER all the more appalling appealing, TLC’s taken a cue from another beloved bastion of basic cable: the History Channel. By employing staged reenactments of reportedly true stories, we lucky folks in the audience not only get all the gory details, we get them performed by sub-par actors.
But perhaps we’re being too harsh. After all, the concept behind the series is admittedly pretty interesting. Sex sent you to the ER? Um, what exactly were you doing? That question and more will be answered for the next three Saturdays at 10 p.m. on TLC. Protection recommended.
