Are you feeling Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) withdrawal during The Walking Dead Season 4? It’s bad enough that it’s winter and there’s not enough sun. Now there’s not enough Daryl, too. The struggle is real.
There were already two full episodes in the first half of the season without any Team Prison peeps, including Daryl. Then we had that amazing midseason finale, with a decent amount of Daryl time, considering everything else going on. Then we suffered through that two month break until Season 4 returned with ... no Daryl in Episode 9. This past week’s Episode 10 had a good Daryl focus … for about 10 minutes, then he disappeared. And now AMC’s promos and sneak peeks for Episode 11 suggest we may be going Daryl-free again this Sunday.
The Walking Dead isn’t The Daryl Show, but he is a very popular character and it’s a little surprising to see him held back so much. We know Daryl is getting a major focus in an upcoming episode that Andrew Lincoln (Rick Grimes) called “magnificent,” but how much of this season are we going to spend with newbies and peripheral characters and sad, scary kids who make us re-appreciate our own childhoods?
Do you think Season 4 could use more Daryl action or are you happy just to know he’ll have his big day in the sun later on? Are you glad that The Powers That Be decided to spread the air time wealth to multiple characters so we get to know all of them a bit better? It’s not like Daryl is the only character we care about — and TWD is a democracy, not a Dixtatorship, so we can’t expect him to dominate everything. (That’s why he and Merle should get their own spinoff show!)
How do you feel about the percentage of Daryl time so far this season? Frustrated? Hopeful? Content? Pretend you’re Beth Greene (Emily Kinney) writing to her prison journal and share your feelings in the comments section below! The Walking Dead Season 4 airs Sundays at 9 p.m. ET on AMC.
