As it stands right now on The Walking Dead Season 4, the only people who have met Sgt. Abraham Ford (Michael Cudlitz) and his pals Dr. Eugene Porter, (Josh McDermitt) and Rosita Espinosa (Christian Serratos) are Tara Chambler (Alanna Masterson) and Glenn Rhee (Steven Yeun).
Tara and Glenn stumbled upon the intriguing trio after fleeing the prison and killing a herd of walkers. And although we only saw the newbies for a few seconds at the end of Season 4, Episode 10: “Inmates,” they are expected to be a crucial part of the series going forward — just as they are in The Walking Dead comics upon which the AMC show is based.
However, while Abraham and co.’s television intro was remarkably similar to their comic book debut, the relationship Abraham has with Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) on television will differ from their dynamic in the comics. Or at least that’s what actor Michael Cudlitz recently told TV Guide.
In the comics, Abraham, Eugene, and Rosita meet Rick and the prison survivors back at Hershel’s farm after The Governor’s (David Morrissey) final attack of the prison. From there, everyone heads to Washington, D.C. because Eugene says he’s a scientist who knows the cause of the walker outbreak. After a turbulent start — Rick and Abraham fight over Abraham trying to kill Maggie Greene (Lauren Cohan) when Maggie attempts suicide — Rick and Abraham become friends.
For what it’s worth, Michael says the TV version of TWD won’t follow this trajectory. "Some of those stories that join us together have been told already," he said. TV Guide points out that on the TV show Rick has already taken that trip back to the armory with Michonne (Danai Gurira) instead of Abraham, as in the comics "At that point in the comics, they have an understanding. We're going to handle it differently," Michael concludes.
Are you happy that Scott Gimple is mixing things up from the comics a bit, or would you rather he stay close to the source material? Tell us what you think below!
