That’s a quote from Norman Reedus (Daryl Dixon) to SciFiNow. He said these next eight episodes — which launch this Sunday, February 9 — are his favorite so far. One particular favorite may be whichever one is meant to be Daryl-centric. Andrew Lincoln (Rick Grimes) recently said Norman had a “magnificent” episode coming in the second half.
Andy added that four or five other characters did as well, but the Daryl focus got some fans worried. What if they’re giving him the Hershel/Governor treatment, where a focused episode precedes a death notice? SciFiNow asked if fans should start a petition to save him. “I can’t tell you that!” Norman said. “I think everyone should be worried about all the characters all the time.” (You know pharmaceutical companies will start capitalizing on this with ads for anti-anxiety meds during the show.)
In the past four seasons we’ve gotten little hints to Daryl’s past, with older brother Merle (Michael Rooker) doing stints in juvie and no parental figures around. We don’t know exactly what Daryl was up to before the zombie apocalypse happened, but does Norman know his character’s backstory? “I do,” he said, “but I can’t tell you because it might be addressed in an upcoming episode.” Oooh, like the “magnificent” one coming soon?
So maybe we have some Dixon history coming our way, like the Michonne flashback we’re supposed to see this Sunday on Episode 9. These back eight episodes are meant to be great character studies and we can’t wait to learn more about Daryl. He seems perfectly tailored to this undead world — hunting, tracking, wearing ears — and it’s hard to even picture him in a land of Starbucks lattes and Miley Cyrus songs.
What do you think Daryl was doing before the ish hit the fan? Working at an auto shop? Leading outdoor adventures for Atlanta city folk who want to rough it for the weekend? Gigolo?
