By the end of The Walking Dead Season 4, Episode 11: “Claimed” Michonne (Danai Gurira), Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln), and Carl Grimes (Chandler Riggs) realized that they couldn’t play house forever. Thanks to Rick’s ill-fated nap and subsequent close encounter with some men of questionable morals, the trio decided to ditch suburbia in favor of hitting the road once again.
The final moments of the episode saw them end up at the train tracks we’ve come to know so well. In the distance they saw a sign that read, “Sanctuary for all. Community for all. Those who arrive, survive.” We were a bit surprised that Rick so easily decided to check this place out seeing as our group doesn’t have the best track record with organized communities (see Woodbury) but as Andrew explains in a behind the scenes video below, they weren’t exactly overwhelmed with other options. “I don’t know if Rick truly believes that this is a very safe or a good call, it’s just his only call,” he reasons.
Remember, at this point Rick is still recovering from his near-death showdown with The Governor (David Morrissey) and he knows Carl and Michonne can’t go on runs every day, especially if there are people like the ones he crossed paths with back at the other house running around.
Rick may not have exhibited any doubt about Terminus in the brief clip we saw, but executive producer Gale Anne Hurd assures us that Rick, Carl, and Michonne do, indeed, have their doubts. “Our trio believes that Terminus is at least a destination. But they’re going to be suspect of anything that sounds too good,” she explains.
Last we checked, Tyreese (Chad Coleman), Carol Peletier (Melissa McBride), and the girls — Lizzie Samuels (Brighton Sharbino), Mika Samuels (Kyla Kenedy), and baby Judith— were also headed towards the Terminus “sanctuary,” so maybe we’re due for another reunion soon. If these two groups do cross paths through, Carol’s presence is bound to make things tense since Rick hasn’t seen her since he banished her and Tyreese still has no idea she killed Karen and David. Hopefully baby Judith’s arrival can make that meeting a little less tense.
This Sunday’s Episode 12: “Still” is apparently focusing on Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) and Beth Greene (Emily Kinney), so we have at least one more week before this reunion takes place, lest it even happen at all.
Do you think Rich should be more wary of this sanctuary, or is he just out of options at this point? Watch the video and tell us your thoughts below!
The Walking Dead Season 4 airs Sundays at 9 p.m. ET on AMC.
