Is there anyone left who still thinks baby Judith died in The Walking Dead Season 4midseason finale? Like the Grimes boys, it was our first thought when we saw the bloody empty car seat. But it makes more sense to think someone else saved her. But who?
Our favorite theory was for Michonne (Danai Gurira) to have the baby, since that would be a nice Rick/Carl/Michonne/Judy family unit idea, and we do need to hear more from Michonne about her own history as a mother. But maybe that’s too tidy.
This isn’t a new theory, but shortly after Episode 8 aired, a fan named Trev, who regularly recaps and speculates on the show, posted a YouTube video arguing there was proof that Tyreese saved Judith. Proof is arguable, but it’s a good argument, and there’s even a GIF to back it up as Exhibit A.
Do you have a copy of Episode 8 handy? If so, rewatch part of the battle. If not, cast your mind back to after Lizzie Samuels (Brighton Sharbino) saved Tyreese by shooting Alisha in the forehead. Lizzie and Mika (Kyla Kenedy) ran off and Tyreese said they should go the other way. Then the camera followed the Rick/Governor/Michonne situation. Afterward, bloody Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) went around shouting for Carl Grimes (Chandler Riggs).
There’s a quick scene where the tank blasts into part of the prison, and a blink-and-you-miss-it shot of Tyreese running away. He has his rifle over his shoulder but it does look like he’s carrying something in his arms. Maybe it’s baby Judith.
Let’s say Tyreese does have the baby. Now what? Is he also with the other girls? If so, he’s an insta-nanny of a bunch of young women, with no place to go. If it wasn’t rough to be Ty before, it’s tough now.
Then again, that would fit nicely with the idea of Tyreese and Carol Peletier (Melissa McBride) running into each other later in the back half of the season. There were spoilers that they were seen with a baby, which could be Judith, and how relieved would Tyreese be if Carol swooped in to help him?
He still doesn’t know about the Karen/David situation, and maybe we don’t know that whole story either. It does make sense for Tyreese to have the baby, even if it foils our happy dream of Michonne saving the day and showing off Judith to the Grimes boys.
It won’t be long before we stop speculating about what happens next and see it play out. TWD returns with the second half of Season 4 on Sunday, February 9. AMC is showing another full series marathon before then, with a replay of Episode 8 just before the Episode 9 premiere.Do you think Tyreese saved Judith? How long do you think it will take before Judith gets back to her dad and brother?
