TThe Talk’s Julie Chen and Sharon Osbourne are speaking out about their ABC rival The View…and agree Jenny McCarthy would have been a better addition to The Talk than she is to Barbara Walter’s pioneering panel chat fest.
The ladies stopped by Howard Stern Studios on Wednesday and naturally Stern asked them about The View and specifically it’s hiring of new panelist Jenny McCarthy.
Chen responded “what made The View so popular and so good was that you had five different women from different walks of life discussing politics. And when whatever happened, when Joy left and when Elizabeth left and they got Jenny in, I think they were trying to lighten the mood at the table – more gossip, more fun, more laughs. Jenny is beautiful, and talented, and smart – and what happened was in my opinion, The View doesn’t know what it is right now.”
Chen continued “what put them on the map and made them good and famous, they don’t do that anymore. And no one wants to hear Jenny McCarthy talk about the New York mayoral race or politics. They don’t. That’s not what you put Jenny McCarthy on for.”
“Now it’s kind of all over the place,” Osbourne added.
Stern posed the question “the headline is that The View made a mistake hiring Jenny McCarthy according to Julie Chen?”
“A little but, I did kind of (say that), didn’t I,” Chen said. “I’m gonna own i.” and that “I’m not telling ABC anything they’re not wondering themselves.”
Both Sharon and Julie agreed that McCarthy would have been a better addition to a show like The Talk that stays away from politics and news issue debates.
