Our jaws were firmly planted on the floor when Monique massacred her aunt Sophie (Daniella Pineda) last night on The Originals. The kill was completely out of left field and, at the hands of her niece, was much more dramatic than one could have ever imagined. But will Sophie’s death be a fluke just like the many deaths on The Vampire Diaries? Executive producer Julie Plec spoke to E! Onlineabout that exact notion.
When asked if Sophie’s death will actually stick, Julie wasn’t even trying to beat around the bush. “It seems so, yes,” the showrunner confirmed. “I think that in this particular case, the witches having taken their vengeance against a non-believer, I don’t think there’s much of a hope for her to recover, given that more often than not, you need witch intervention to have a second chance at life. So I think that this may be the end of Miss Sophie.” Aww, sad day!
Of course this interview happened before news broke that Daniella had booked a role as a series regular on NBC’s pilot for Odyssey. If that wasn’t the definite nail in the coffin, we don’t know what is. Even co-star Charles Michael Davis (Marcel Gerard) was surprised to hear that Daniella had already booked another gig, tweeting, “@Maniella that was fast, congrats!” Um, we totally agree, Charles!
We’re sad to see Sophie gone just when she was really starting to develop her own storyline and seemed to be heading in a very interesting direction (read: stabbing Klaus). Looks like the Original will probably be sad he didn’t get to do the deed, but he’ll have to get over it.
