Once upon a time nobody had ever heard of Destiny’s Child. The fledgling act, then a quartet known as Girl’s Tyme, was still many a platinum record (and total member reorganization) from its status as one of the world’s biggest music phenomena.
In a new video unearthed from those pre-fame days, we get a look at the teenage version of Destiny — and guys, it’s totally priceless.
In the short clip from a interview, the four girls are introducing themselves to the camera. First up is Kelly Rowland, rocking a tightly cropped hairstyle. “I’m the second lead vocalist of the group,” she explains. And here’s where it gets good.
Sitting on the other side of the bed, to the far left of fellow group members LaTavia Roberson and LeToya Luckett, teen Bey’s face practically screams “What did you say?” Another member just announced herself co-commander in chief, and Bey does not approve. To make the moment even more amazing, Beyoncé then breaks into a full hacking cough. It’s like Kelly’s claims at stardom offended her very vocal cords!
We don’t blame Queen B for her reaction. We’ve all had our catty moments, particularly when we were teens. Obviously, Kelly and Beyoncé long ago put aside any differences they may have. After saying goodbye to LaTavia and LeToya and welcoming a new gal named Michelle, the ladies went on to fulfill their Destiny and never looked back.
But still, that reaction! Flawless.
