The documentary Blackfish stirred up a lot of ill will towards SeaWorld aquatic parks in 2013.
The film — which showed the capture and treatment of the orcas in their parks – even caused eight of their ten acts in their winter concert series to cancel amidst the controversy, including Willie Nelson, Martina McBride and Trisha Yearwood.
But SeaWorld started off the New Year on an upbeat note. They won the prestigious President’s Award for a float in this year’s Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena. The float won for “Most Effective Floral Use & Presentation” and featured a family or Orcas playing.
The float made it’s way down Colorado Boulevard largely without incident, but PETA noted that “if you require THIS much security for your parade float then your company is doing something wrong.”
