Well, that didn’t take long. In the ScandalSeason 3 premiere, we found out who leaked Olivia Pope’s name to the press, outing her as President Fitzgerald Grant’s mistress. While fans had their speculation for who betrayed Liv and Fitz, the big reveal was completely unexpected.

Toward the end of Episode 1: “It’s Handled,” there was a twist in Olivia and Fitz’s grand plan to tell the press (and in turn, the world) a skewed version of the truth, admitting their affair. Before Mellie and Fitz could hold hand in the rose garden and admit his wrongdoings, the Gladiators stepped in with a new plan. Led by Harrison with an assist by Cyrus, they framed Jeannine Locke as Fitz’s mistress with a few video clips and emails, and suddenly Olivia’s name was cleared.
However, Fitz didn’t want it to go down that way, and in the midst of a fight with Mellie about it, she revealed it was all her master plan to frame Jeannine. Why? She got the idea from Fitz… when he leaked Olivia’s name to the press! (We’ll give you a moment to catch your breath.)
While all of the details will unfold throughout the season, we know that Fitz had his Secret Service agent Tom spill the beans to a reporter “drunkenly” at the bar. His idea behind it was to save Olivia. “As long as you had her name in your arsenal, Olivia was at your mercy,” Fitz explained to Mellie. “Now she’s free.”
In the promo for next week, there’s no confrontation between Olivia and Fitz, so either no one tells her or she was in it all along. We’re guessing it’s not the latter, but you never know — creator Shonda Rhimes loves to surprise us.Are you shocked that Fitz leaked Olivia’s name to the press?
