Ever since Rihanna surprised us last week with the news that she and fellow songstress Shakira had a collaboration in the works, we’ve been on pins and needles. Between Shakira’s latin flavor and RiRi’s edgy pop sound, we knew this single had the potential to top “Beautiful Liar” (sorry, Bey!). Well, it’s finally here.. and it was worth the wait!
The song, titled “Can’t Remember to Forget You,” is a bouncy break-up jam that boasts a fun reggae beat with splashes of rock in the chorus. It’s the perfect song for kicking back on the beach or running on the treadmill!
"Oh oh oh oh/ I can't remember to forget you/ I keep forgetting I should let you go/ But when you look at me, the only memory, is us kissing in the moonlight/ Oh oh oh oh/ I can't remember to forget you," the divas sing in the chorus.
But lest you think that the lyrics were inspired by Shakira’s boyfriend, hunky soccer player Gerard Pique, she wants to be clear that this song has nothing to do with her current romantic situation.
“The song is about that guy that just gets under your skin and you can't leave alone,” Shakira tells MTV News, adding, “I think every woman has been through that.” Yep, been there, done that! However, she clarifies: “This song is not exactly a reflection of my personal life right now.”
Either way, we can’t stop playing this song — there’s instant hit potential here!
Are you loving this Rihanna x Shakira tune as much as we are right now? Sound off in the comments below.
