Good news for Shondaland fans: Private Practice star Tim Daly has booked a return to the small screen. The 57-year-old — who played naturopathic doctor Pete Wilder on the Grey's Anatomy spin-off — just joined the CBS pilot Madam Secretary, reports TVLine.
In the prospective drama series, Tea Leoni (Spanglish) will portray Elizabeth McGill, a "maverick" Secretary of State. Tim, taking a semi-regular role in the show, will play her husband, Henry, a professor of medieval religious history.
The project comes from the mind of writer Barbara Hall, who created Joan of Arcadia and most recently served as a producer on Homeland. She also helped produce the series Judging Amy, which coincidentally starred Tim's on-screen Private Practice love interest Amy Brenneman. (Even more coincidentally, Tim guest-starred in an episode of that show, sharing the screen with his future pretend lover!)
Tim isn't the only Private actor with a horse in next season's TV race: Kate Walsh is playing the titular character in NBC's Bad Judge pilot, Amy Brenneman will play a cult member in the HBO series The Leftovers, and Taye Diggs dons his detective cap for the TNT series Murder in the First.
We just hope none of these series compete in the same timeslot — we want all the former Oceanside Wellness docs to be successful on their new shows!Source: TVLine
