Spencer (Troian Bellisario) is poised to tell Aria (Lucy Hale) the truth about Ezra on Pretty Little Liars, but how will the Liar react? Will she choose Ezra over Spencer? Joseph Dougherty talked to TV Guideabout the imminent reveal.
“[Spencer’s pill addiction is] [at] the core of Spencer's story as we approach the finale. It affects her ability to function and, more dangerously, it affects her credibility with the other girls,” Joseph teased, which implies that once Ezra counters Spencer’s truth with a truth of his own, the other Liars might not believe her. We know from the synopsis for next week’s episode, that Spencer will most likely tell Aria of her Ezra-related concerns, but the confession is complicated by Ezra’s hijinks: “A wrench is thrown into the plan when Ezra tells Aria about his concern and suspicion of Spencer’s recent addiction problem. Now with Spencer’s credibility being questioned, can the girls trust what Spencer has been telling them about Ezra — could this all be a figment of Spencer’s tired brain or really just a clever ploy by Ezra to cover his tracks?”
Though we’re not sure how Aria will react in the moment, we think she will eventually trust what Spencer is telling her. In the synopsis for Season 4, Episode 21 (“She’s Come Undone”), "Emily, Hanna and Spencer are concerned for Aria as they watch their friend crumble after learning shocking news about Ezra." It doesn’t sound like Aria is in denial about Ezra’s “A”-ness, so much as having a hard time dealing with it. We’re counting on Team Sparia to eventually come out with a win on this one.
But don’t think the Ezra revelation will be the end of the mystery. We have a feeling that there’s still much to learn about Ezra’s involvement in the “A” game, and that the truth bombs will continue to drop as we race towards the Season 4 finale. According to Joseph: “We didn't say it frivolously when we said it was the season of answers so you'll come away from the end with a tremendous amount of information,” he teased. “But each answer can raise two more questions so we still have a lot of story to tell and mystery to solve. In general, you need to be cautious when you think you've figured out someone's motive for doing anything.” Buckle up, people!
