You know him as do-gooder vampire Stefan Salvatore on The Vampire Diaries, but Paul Wesley is about to add another title to his résumé: director. According to Buzzfeed, Paul will be the first among his TVD co-stars to helm an episode of the hit CW series — which we imagine makes showrunner Julie Plec one proud mama. But which episode is Paul directing?
“It’s an honor and the cast couldn’t be any more supportive, which I feel truly grateful for, Paul told Buzzfeed. The episode in question is the yet-to-be-titled Season 5, Episode 18, which is kind of a big deal since this roller coaster ride of a season should be revving up for a finale soon after that. Of the episode, Paul says it’s “both nostalgic and suspenseful,” which makes us pretty happy. “It feels like our world, but something is a bit askew. It feels uneasy. And I respond to that.”
The only problem we have with Paul stepping behind the camera is the fear that we might lose out on Stefan in the episode, but the 31-year-old actor is assuring everyone that you’ll get your weekly dose of Hero Hair that you’re used to getting.
“It’s not Stefan-light, but it’s also not Stefan-heavy,” Paul said. “I’d say it is somewhere in the middle. A good friend of mine recently directed a film he also starred in, and I was on the set the whole time, so I got to see firsthand what that experience looked like.”
And Paul is quick to let everyone know that directing this episode wasn’t just given to him on a silver platter, he had to work very hard for the opportunity and let them know he wanted to tackle the job a long time ago. “I spent a year shadowing directors, attending meetings, prepping, sitting in the editing room, etc. Even though I have been working in TV for years, it ended up being such a blessing because I learned invaluable information,” Paul dished. “They finally granted me an episode, which was met with a great deal of excitement and nervousness on my part.”
We have full faith in you, Paul. We can’t wait to see your work!
