Actor and stand-up comedian Craig Robinson, who is probably best known for his role as droll character Daryl on The Office, was caught with drugs while attempting to leave the Bahamas on Wednesday, October 9, 2013. The 41-year-old actor, who was in the Caribbean for a comedy show, decided to bring a few party favors from the United States to the islands. Craig was stopped while boarding the plane in Nassau, where customs agents found marijuana and "pills deemed suspicious" on him, said Superintendent Stephen Dean of the Royal Bahamas Police Force, who also went on to say that bust was "nothing major."
In court, the actor stated he bought the drugs in America and brought them to the Bahamas not knowing they were illegal overseas. Craig, who did not have a lawyer present, pleaded guilty to two counts of drug possession. He could've faced up to four years in a prison in the Bahamas, but was instead fined $1000 and deported. So how many drugs constitutes a "nothing major" drug bust? Prosecutor Ercel Dorsett stated the actor had a half gram of marijuana and 18 ecstasy pills. Craig's publicist, Nicole Chabot, and Los Angeles lawyer Blair Berk, who represented him in a previous drug arrest, both declined to comment.
This is the not the first time the funnyman has been charged with drug possession and then released. Five years ago, in 2008, Craig was arrested in Culver City, California, on suspicion of possessing MDMA and methamphetamine, but the charges were dropped after he completed a diversion program.
After The Office, which wrapped in May 2013, Craig Robinson starred in apocalyptic comedy This Is The End, and can next be seen in Hot Tub Time Machine 2.
As a side note, MDMA, which is a pure form of ecstasy, has been having a resurgence in Hollywood. Most recently the drug was glamorized in Miley Cyrus's controversial single, "We Can't Stop", Kanye West's "Mercy", and Rihanna's "Diamonds".
