We can think of few things better than listening in on Mindy Kaling and Reese Witherspoon interviewing each other, but the girls who attend the Brentwood School in Los Angeles got to witness it in person when the pals chatted at the school’s Young Women’s Conference.
According to The Huffington Post, Reese and Mindy talked about a lot of things — or as Reese put it, they ran “the gamut of conversations that women have about business and life.” But what we loved most? When Mindy revealed that in her free time, she likes to do nail art, “like a 14-year-old girl.”
And Reese’s favorite way to have fun? “Few people know this about me, but I like to take hip-hop dance classes,” Reese shared. “I’m not saying I’m good at hip-hop dance classes, I just enjoy taking them.”
The gals also discussed how they broke into acting, and they each had a totally different story. Reese auditioned for a movie that was filming in her hometown of Nashville, Tennessee — something Reese said was a rarity at the time — and got the part because “they wanted a girl with a country accent, which I had at the time.”
As for Mindy? “Even though I’m a comedian now, I was largely silent until I was about 15 years old,” Mindy confessed. “I wasn’t raised in this kind of Glee world where children were told to ‘La-la!’ and express themselves all the time … And I think everyone thought I was smart, but my one best friend Emma used to say I was funny. We’d do impressions of people who were mean to us.”
And when Mindy paid Reese the compliment of comparing her to Emma Thompson because “she always plays intelligent characters,” Reese was quick to deny the comparison.
“She’s really much smarter than I am,” Reese said.
Next time you guys sit down for a chat, please call us. We’d love to be in the audience next time.
