When deciding whether or not to join American Idol‘s judging panel, Mariah Carey turned the advice of fellow a pop legend.
The 43-year-old superstar was dishing the A.I. dirt on Thursday morning’s Power 105.1 Breakfast Club with Angela Yee and Charlamagne Tha God.
She revealed “I asked someone I who respect probably more than almost anyone in the business – Prince – if he thought it (joining Idol) was the wrong move and he said no, he thought it was the right move. So if Prince likes it then I like it.”
Carey also dished that she was eager to sign up for the show once she heard from friend and The Butler co-star Lenny Kravitz that he’d been approached to join the panel.
“Lenny was like ”let’s go I heard you’re gonna do it, they want to talk to me’ and I felt like he had a certain amount of credibility as an artist, as a rock star. And yet they chose to go another direction which felt very ‘reality TV’ .”
She also confirmed that she got paid BIG bucks for her season. When Charlamagne reminded her she got a $12 million paycheck out of the gig she shot back “more than that. I wouldn’t have done it for 12.”
Oh Mariah. Never change!
