It’s hard to believe it’s been a week since Juan Pablo Galavis made the foot-in-mouth remarks heard round the world. But while others have come out of the woodwork to accept the apology JPG was asked to make, it’s not over until *NSYNC speaks on the matter. Boy band alum Lance Bass filled those shoes when he spoke to the Associated Press earlier this week about his feelings on the matter.
While Lance says that he has a “massive crush” on the current Bachelor for ABC, he was definitely bummed when he heard Juan Pablo say that having a gay Bachelor would be a bad example for children. “Of course it’s disappointing,” Lance reflected, “because you don’t want someone who (you) actually love to have those thoughts.”
Further, Lance says, he understands where Juan Pablo is coming from. The engaged teen heartthrob, who is now 34, explains that he grew up in Mississippi, saying “I know how people can get brainwashed into thinking really, really awful things. So hopefully, he will learn from this and get educated.”
Venezuela-raised Juan Pablo issued a statement apologizing for his comments, citing a language barrier as the reason for calling gays “more pervert” in the interview. Still, Lance thinks the issue at hand is likely his cultural differences. "When you grow up in a place like that, you get brainwashed into thinking that way, you know, you can't help what you grow up with.”
Juan Pablo agreed to meet with homosexual Latinos and speak with GLAAD about his actions. And if it helps, Lance says “I still think he’s cute.” We’re right in sync with that..Source:The Associated Press (via CBS News)
