Before today, only anonymous friends had spoken to the press about Ke$ha’s choice to enter rehab for her eating disorders last week. But now, the star’s own mother, Pebe Sebert, is opening up about her daughter’s struggle — she’s battling both anorexia and bulimia, Pebe says — and she’s calling out the people that pushed Ke$ha over the edge.
Pebe tells RadarOnline.comthat though Dr. Luke is to blame, in part, for the hitmaker’s body issues (“Luke’s comments to her pushed her into the next level,” she says), another member of Ke$ha’s team was even more detrimental.
“It wasn’t just Luke,” the singer’s mother shares. “She had an advisor who told her he had a meeting with a record company and they said she better lose 15 pounds in the next 30 days. He told her he didn’t care if she shoved her hand down her throat or took illegal drugs, but she had to lose the weight.”
Ke$ha did eventually start making herself sick to drop the pounds, a fact that she couldn’t hide from her mom.
“She told me she was juicing and hiking Runyon, but she was throwing up. I knew at some point she’d done it. I told her it was dangerous…her teeth, her voice. She’d swear she wasn’t doing it anymore, but had a breakdown right before Christmas and told me she’d been doing it pretty much on a daily basis since two months after she signed with Luke.”
We’re glad that Ke$ha is getting the help that she needs and hope that she’ll keep herself surrounded by only positive influences moving forward.
Original story (1/8/14):
For many Ke$ha fans, news of her entering into rehab for an eating disorder last week came as a shock. The hitmaker has been busy promoting her top 10 hit "Timber," even performing it alongside Pitbull at the American Music Awards a little over a month ago. But according to reports, her decision to check into a facility wasn't as random as it may seem.
Now, some of Ke$ha's close friends were just as surprised as her fans, with one anonymous friend telling People it was "kind of out of the blue," saying, "She's just as sensitive about her weight as anyone is, but not constantly talking about it."
For others close to the star, this was actually a long time coming. One possible contributor to her downfall? Her relationship with her longtime producer, Lukasz Gottwald, aka "Dr. Luke.".
"He has been verbally abusive to her and insults her and the way she looks, saying she's not pretty enough or skinny enough," her friend recounts to the mag. "The abuse ultimately led Ke$ha to a bad place." A rep for Dr. Luke chose not to respond.
On the other hand, friends say Ke$ha was dealing with a lot of industry pressure — and not just from Luke. "Being in this industry hasn't helped her issues, it's made them worse. But it's also finally made her deal with them properly."
We're sorry to hear that she's going through this right now, but it's great that she's faced her struggles head on and is getting the treatment that she needs! For now, Ke$ha is on track to complete her 30-day stay in the facility, and she will continue to work on herself once she leaves.
"She's a strong woman," another source remarks. "She'll put in the work and get over this."
