Katy Perry’s “Dark Horse” is officially running in the wild!
The singer started a Twitter countdown on Valentine’s Day in anticipation of the release of the video for her new hip hop-infused single. The Egyptian-themed video features Queen “Katy-Patra” atop a throne as suitors approach to try and woo her. Blue-painted men and cat head-sporting dancers surround her, dancing subtly to the catchy tune.
But the impossible-to-please (and incredibly dressed) Katy-Patra hates on everything that’s brought before her, turning a diamond offering into a grill, and somehow turning down a large man who brings her junk food, including a pyramid made of Twinkies. The highlight is when she eats a Cheeto (no, we’re not kidding) and then, finding it too hot, destroys him. As one does.
Directed by Matthew Cullen, who also helmed her “California Gurls” video in 2010, it’s visually beautiful, with incredible makeup, gorgeous costumes, and even a Katniss-esque moment around the 3:30 mark.
A trailer put out on YouTube also teased the video, threatening that would either choose a “top dawg” or make them whimper, and in the end, she turns a hot guy and the cutest dog ever made into a perfect hybrid. Because she’s Katy Perry, and it’s time for us all to bow down.Check out the video and then tell us what you think of it! Is it as gorgeous as “Roar” or fun as “California Gurls”? Or did it fall short for you without all the dancing that we’re used to?
