Before you get any ideas about who Justin Bieber has in mind when he’s belting out his new pop ballad “Heartbreaker,” let the Biebs set the record straight: It’s not ex-girlfriend and fellow music superstar Selena Gomez. Nope, “Heartbreaker” is all about another leading lady in the entertainment industry: the one, the only Oprah.
“Heartbreaker goes out to Oprah Winfrey. Love u girl,” Justin announced via his Instagram on October 7. The song is the first released via his newest venture, Music Mondays, where for ten straight weeks the Biebs will share a new song at the start of every week.
Oprah hasn’t publicly commented on her new role as Justin Bieber’s muse though with lyrics like “You say that you don't wanna talk but it's cool/I've been thinking about you all day long, hoping you pick up your phone” it sounds like she’s been hearing from the Biebs — a lot.
In his introduction for the song on iTunes, Justin elaborates on what the single means to him.
“It’s a song for people going through a heartbreak — like I was when I wrote it,” he writes. “It means so much to me to be able to share what I was, and still am going through, with my fans. I’m very proud of this song and I hope it gives my fans some insight into my heart.”
Who knew Oprah was such a — wait for it — heartbreaker.
