Joan Rivers, who appeared on the premiere episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, is still on cloud nine from the appearance and she’s furious at Jay Leno for banning her from the show for 23 years.
Joan was exiled in 1986, when legendary host Johnny Carson felt betrayed when his permanent guest host left to start her own late night show on FOX. Since Jay was handpicked by Carson for the job, he kept the ban.
“It was great,” she told Inside Edition of returning to the show. “I felt like Dalton Trumbo. I was back and it was so much fun!” Trumbo was an Oscar-winning screenwriter who was blacklisted for decades in the 40s for communist activities.
Joan has only good things to say about the new host of The Tonight Show: “I think he’s so perfect for it and he’s happy to do it. It’s a pleasure. He’s a wonderful worker.”
And the 80-year-old comedienne is thrilled the nearly 30 year ban is over.“The f***ing curse is gone,” she says. [Rivers flips the bird] “To Jay! Well, Jay. Twenty-three years. I’m still here and you’re going to be selling cars.”
