If a 30-second promo for next week’s Glee episode (Season 5, Episode 3: “The Quarterback”) made us cry this much, we’re really not sure yet how we’ll make it through an entire 60 minutes. We’ve been saying goodbye to Cory Monteith for a few months now, but on October 10, Glee fans will lose the character he brought to life: Finn Hudson.
As the promo and earlier reports confirm, Lea Michele (Rachel) will be singing an emotional rendition of “To Make You Feel My Love” written by Bob Dylan and most recently made popular by Adele. In the video below, Lea sings the soulful ballad as the students of McKinley leave mementos at the place where Finn’s locker once was. The scene hearkens back to the makeshift memorial Cory’s fans created outside the Fairmont Pacific Rim Hotel, where Cory was found dead on July 13 of a heroin and alcohol overdose.
While we are all too aware how Cory died, there won’t be a clear indication of how McKinley High’s former quarterback will pass. Series creator Ryan Murphy indicates that the cause will be left vague, with the episode being less about Finn’s death as it is a celebration of Finn’s memory — and Cory’s.
There is not enough tissue in the world to prepare us for next week.
