Warner Brothers announced Wednesday that Israeli model Gal Gadot has been cast as Diana Prince – a.k.a. Wonder Woman – in the upcoming Superman/Batman sequel to Man of Steel. And just like when it was announced that Ben Affleck had been selected to play Batman, social media went nuts with the news. Mainly that the thin, lithe 28-year-old had been chosen to play the iconic Amazonian superhero.
The most common complaints were that her pin-thin model frame wasn’t right and that a more athletic and curvier actress should have been chosen for the part. And the main gripe? That the former Miss Israel lacks the hearty bust-line that the Wonder Woman of the DC comics is so famous for.
The film’s director Zack Snyder thinks he got the casting right stating “Wonder Woman is arguably one of the most powerful female characters of all time and a fan favorite in the DC Universe. Not only is Gal an amazing actress, but she also has that magical quality that makes her perfect for the role.”
While the main complaints about Gadot have been about her not being physically right for the part, at least she hasn’t suffered the insane level of hate that Affleck received when news broke that he was cast as Batman. For the day following that announcement, four of the top ten trending Twitter topics were devoted to Ben-bashing , including “BatFleck” “#betterthanbenaffleck” and “Ben Affleck As Batman.”
What do you think? Is she the right choice to play Wonder Woman?
