Charlie Hunnam may have packed up his whips and chains from Christian Grey’s bedroom and moved back to the comforts of Charming, California, for another season of Sons of Anarchy, but sources for The Wrapclaim that the handsome Brit’s departure from the movie isn’t a sign of other trouble on set.
While fans were, at first, wary of the bearded blond when he was cast as the bondage-happy billionaire in Sam Taylor-Johnson’s big-screen adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey, Charlie’s decision to leave the movie was not the result of their protest, but allegedly, the actor’s unreadiness for superstardom and all of the scary adoration that comes along with it.
Despite Charlie’s abrupt departure, Dakota Johnson is reportedly still on board for the project, apparently living with no fear of having people ask her to sign latex suits for them for the rest of her life.
Now that Charlie is out, the script is being reworked by screenwriter Patrick Marber, who wrote 2004 romantic drama Closer.
There is no definitive word yet on who will replace Charlie in the role of Christian, although there’s been speculation that either Vampire Diaries star Ian Somerhalder or Robert Pattinson might assume the part.
