Christina and her fan favorite pro Mark Ballas scored the first 10 of Season 17 last night — but they were still sent home at the end of the show, proving that that DWTS is as much about the story as it is the dancing.
“I was shocked,” Christina told reporters backstage. “After having a great performance you feel a lot more confident but you know in the back of your mind a lot of this is swayed by votes, a lot of it has to do with that. We knew last week wasn’t the best week based on everything with Julianne and all of that stuff that happened. We didn’t know what the outcome would be.”
While the dancing duo scored the highest marks of the night, last week’s mishap apparently took a toll. Christina’s partner Mark was criticized by guest judge and childhood friend Julianne Hough last week for being a show-off and not letting Christina shine.
“She has a presence and followers and she’s very likeable, not to say… we probably could have worked on our dance a little more, but we did do a great job,” Christina said regarding Julianne’s comments last week. “Who knows? I don’t want to blame it on her.”
Either way, Christina and Mark took the guest judge’s comments to heart.
“Mark purposely said, ‘Okay, well, if she thinks I overshadow you we’re going to have a whole intro with just you dancing,’” Christina explained. “I have no regrets at all. I wish I could be here longer.”
