Remember Christina Aguilera’s last album, Lotus? You couldn’t be faulted if you didn’t — it made nary a ripple in the music industry in 2012. As 2013 wraps, however, The Voice coach teased with us with the promise of “something special.” She tweeted a photo of herself in a dimly lit recording studio with a Christmas wreath behind her and lights all around that read, “Working on something special... Happy Holidays to all!! XoXtina.”
Inquiring minds and Christina fans want to know, and the best thing about it is it seems like she’s telling us a new album may be about to drop. Perhaps she’s doing the whole “less promotion is more” thing a la Beyonce. Either way, we’re delirious with anticipation. It’s the perfect time to launch some new music, since it would come on the heels of “Say Something” –– her sleeper hit of a song with the up-and-coming duo A Great Big World.
The ballad came to her during a time when the gorgeous songstress was open to new and exciting things in her life. As she said during an interview that popped up on YouTube, “It came to me at a time when I’m feeling very inspired. It’s so simple and it’s so quiet and still and steady and, in a way, pleading to hear something … to hear some kind of answer or get an answer in the most humble, unassuming, non-demanding way.” The video for the beautiful song is just as moving as the lyrics.
Everything about Christina has been softer and quieter during season five of The Voice. From her style to her singing to her critiques on the show, it seems that the newly-turned 33-year-old has really matured, and we just know the next music she releases will reflect that.
Are you as excited as we are to find out what Christina was working on in this TwitPic? Let us know in the comments!
