As if Chris Pine weren’t dreamy enough already. The blue-eyed hunk has proven himself to be multi-talented by balancing roles in both action (Star Trek, Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit) and comedy (This Means War) movies, and now we can add yet another skill to his list: music, namely singing!
While promoting Jack Ryan on Jimmy Kimmel Live this week, the conversation turned to the subject of the actor’s role in the upcoming Into the Woods film. For those unfamiliar, the Broadway musical adaptation also stars such major names as Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, and Johnny Depp. Chris will play the Prince to Anna Kendrick’s Cinderella.
Now, we know Anna’s got quite a set of pipes on her, but can Chris sing? Yes, says co-star Meryl, who was a recent guest on Kimmel. In fact, the legendary actress says he’s got a “great voice.”
"She said that?! She told you that?" the 33-year-old responds skeptically. "I'm a shower singer, for sure. But I have to tell you something. If you think you're a good singer in the shower, it's a big fat lie, because the acoustics of a bathroom are incredible."
But Jimmy doesn’t let him off the hook there. Show us what you got, mister! To be fair, Chris is gamely down to put on a show for the audience, breaking into an acapella version of “Fly Me to the Moon” and.. oh my god, he’s actually really good! There’s some nice vibrato and a real tone going on there. We know we should have trusted Meryl from the get-go, but we thought maybe she was being nice.
"I'm falling in love," Jimmy says as he finishes. Back off, Jimmy — we want a chance!
Are you shocked by Chris’s vocal skills? And does this make you look forward to Into the Woods even more? Feel free to react below in the comments.
