We hope that tough-as-nails boxer Evander Holyfield — this is the guy that kept boxing after Mike Tyson bit off part of his ear! — is ready to deal with the wrath of the public after his recent statements against homosexuality.
Just weeks after Duck Dynasty’s Phil Robertson came under fire for his anti-gay remarks, Celebrity Big Brother UK star Evander is putting his two cents in on the controversial subject, and they are not entirely PC.
On the reality show Sunday night, fellow cast member Luisa Zissman asked Evander if he knew of any gay boxers, which prompted the heavyweight to launch into his own anti-gay tirade. First thing’s first: Evander believes that homosexuality is an issue that doctors can fix. “That ain’t normal!” he’s seen saying. “The Bible lets you know what’s wrong and what’s right.”
And he wasn’t done yet. Next the boxer likened being gay to having a disability: “If you were born, and your leg was turned this way, what do you do? Go to the doctor and get it fixed…The only thing I’m trying to tell you is, you know how handicapped people, you can’t say because they’re born that way you can’t move that…Yes, it is a choice.”
Ah, the old “it’s a choice” argument. GLAAD is not going to be happy when they hear this one.
At least Evander’s housemate told him off on-screen following his statements. Though the conversation went politely enough, this is one guy who doesn’t seem to be changing his mind any time soon, justifying his statements to her by saying that he was “just telling her [his] opinion.” Hopefully, Evander has a friend who can clue him in on the offensive nature of his view.
Are you surprised that another celeb is speaking out against homosexuality so soon? Sound off below.
