Well, DWTS does love a good twist and this is one they hadn’t tried in a while. Brooke shared more details in a statement to E! News:
"I have enjoyed seven seasons co-hosting DWTS but understand the need for change considering the position of the show at this juncture. I've always been one to embrace change and looking forward to pursuing opportunities I previously wasn't able to entertain because of contractual obligations to the show. I've seen my fair share of shocking eliminations in the ballroom but this one takes the cake."
It sounds like this was a true Survivor-style blindside. DWTS Season 18 starts on Monday, March 17 and ABC just announced that the new cast will be revealed on Tuesday, March 4, which is something Tom and Brooke usually did together.
Brooke touched on the “need for change” considering the show at this point, and it does seem like DWTS is downsizing as a reflection of its dip in the ratings. If they’re going to change/downsize the band they’ve had from the beginning, it does make sense that they would also question whether the show needs two hosts. One they lost the Celebriquarium, Brooke didn’t even have her own space for post-dance Q&A, so … it’s not too shocking that we’re down to just Emmy-winning Tom, but it’s still a loss. Brooke will always be part of the DWTS family and we’ll miss her gorgeous presence in the ballroom.
Are you shocked by Brooke’s pre-season elimination? What other surprises are coming?!
