Making friends with Walmart shoppers isn’t the only thing Beyonce’s doing to celebrate the surprise release of her latest self-titled album. On December 21, she screened the album in its entirety at the School of Visual Arts in New York.
“I felt like I wanted to follow in the footsteps of Madonna and be a powerhouse and have my own empire,” Beyonce told her audience after the screening, according to Us Weekly.
And speaking of Madonna, have you seen the adorable photo of Bey kissing her 8-year-old daughter, Mercy James, at her December 19 stop on her tour? Too sweet!
Becoming a powerhouse is exactly what Beyonce’s achieved — who else could have released an album with no promotion, only to have it skyrocket directly to number one? And the reason she was so driven to pull it off, she said, was to “show other women, when you get to this point in your career, you don’t have to go sign with someone else and share your money and your success. You can do it yourself.”
“I found a team of underdogs, a team of women, a team of people no one believed in,” Beyonce added. “And we worked together and we stayed up all night and we were progressive and we did not follow the rules and we said, ‘Why can’t we do this?’”
And it would be the understatement of the year to say that her mission was accomplished.
“We did it!” Beyonce said. “And not only did we do it, it’s my company and I’m very proud of that.”
Way to go, Queen Bey! If you need us, we’ll be casually strolling around our local Walmart, hoping you show up.
