When it comes to kissing, Juan Pablo Galavis refuses to stick to the script!
Back on the premiere’s lead-in, Sean Lowe warned Juan Pablo not to kiss a girl in full view of the harem, citing his own experience of hurting the girls’ feelings when he got caught. But JPG broke the code on Season 18, Episode 3, thanks to Sharleen Joynt and her super-awkward soccer smooches. (If anything, JPG should worry about those kisses scaring the girls away from ever wanting to kiss anyone.)
TV Guide asked Juan Papa if he regretted breaking the no-kissing-while-they’re-peeking rule.
“It happens every season,” Juan Pablo said. “So, I don't even worry about it. It's tough. You get caught up in the moment, and at this point they feel rejected if it doesn't go they want it to. But in the middle of a soccer field, are you kidding me? I was like, ‘I have to do this.’ Obviously some girls are going to see, but they know what they're getting into. It's all part of it.”
You know what you signed up for, ladies! The burden is on you. They’re here to compete with 26 other women for one guy’s attention, and we’re here to craft drinking games around who’ll be first to get irrationally jealous about the basic premise of the show (done and done). Clare Crawley won that round, having a mini breakdown over JPG kissing Sharleen during the pool party and appearing to be frustrated that Juan Pablo even noticed the other girls exist.
Juan Pablo reiterated that the women know (or should know) how this crazy process works. “It's something I can't control,” he told TV Guide. “I try to be as fair as possible and get to know them as much as I can, but in this situation, there is going to be hurt. Clare had the lucky first one-on-one date, and she now has to wait.”
That “fair as possible” line will return later this season; you may recognize it from the extended promo, when Clare says she doesn’t know what he’s thinking and Juan Pablo slowly replies, “I’m trying to be as fair as possible.” It does sound like Clare’s Great First Date Syndrome isn’t going away anytime soon.
Do you think Juan Pablo should be more respectful about showing affection to individual women in front of the others, or is that just part of the show and the other women need to get over it?
