On last night’s episode of The Bachelor, Juan Pablo Galavis made history as the first Bachelor to divide audiences with his antics, halfway through the season — but did it affect the ratings? He is the only star we can remember who has hooked up with a girl in a blissful 4 a.m. ocean-wading session, then managed to make her cry, and later cry himself, and leave the episode with more questions than answers. It was, to say mildly, a lot.
So, how many people watched him and Clare Crawley add some motion to the ocean around Vietnam? Many, it turns out. The episode pulled in a 2.6 rating and 7 ratings share in the 18-49 demographic. Overall, 8.33 million viewers tuned in to The Bachelor Season 18 Episode 5, which saw Juan Pablo make a mess of our feelings about him.
This was the best ratings of the season since the January 6 premiere, which brought in 8.4 million viewers and grabbed a 2.7 rating in the target demographic. However, while the rating for the February 3 episode was a bump up from the 2.5 for the previous week, it missed Episode 4’s 8.61 million mark by a few hundred thousand. Still, at this time last year, Sean Lowe was only pulling in 7.9 million viewers to watch his — markedly more chaste — shenanigans.
On last night’s episode, Juan Pablo and Clare hooked up on a late night rendezvous before he took fellow front-runner Nikki Ferrell on a cute 1-on-1 date, and then eliminated three lovely ladies. With five more main episodes of the show, Juan Pablo currently has eight suitors left.
