We’re sorry, Ari! We were feeling pretty bad this Monday morning after we saw that rising R&B star Ariana Grande had taken to her Facebook to vent about those who have criticized her signature ponytail hairstyle (guilty!). While the singer has attempted to change up her look a few times in the past month, it never seemed to stick — and now we know why!
We weren’t alone in our open letters to Ariana suggesting she switch her ‘do to a more sophisticated look. The “Right There” singer felt the need to explain herself by posting to the social media site on Sunday (January 19).
“Since people give me such a hard time about my hair I thought I'd take the time to explain the whole situation to everybody,” she begins. “I had to bleach my hair and dye it red every other week for the first 4 years of playing Cat... as one would assume, that completely destroyed my hair.” (For reference: Ariana plays the naive and bubbly redhead Cat Valentine on Nickelodeon's hit show Sam & Cat.)
Sounds tedious — though the multi-talented star isn’t putting herself through that lengthy process anymore. “I now wear a wig on Sam & Cat,” Ariana explains, adding, “My real hair is back to brown and I wear extensions but I wear it in a ponytail because my actual hair is so broken that it looks absolutely ratchet and absurd when I let it down.” Aww girl, you could never look ratchet! But it all makes so much more sense now.
She’s tested out a variety of fixes for the ‘do, including some recent extensions, but none of them have seemed to work. “I tried wigs, they looked RIDICULOUS. Tried a weave because I am working on a new project and want to try some different looks and literally wanted to rip my scalp off.” Wait, hold up — a new project? Tell us more!
At least our girl is willing to try something new.. eventually. But for now, she’s just focusing on getting her strands back to their former healthy state.
“So as annoying as it is for y'all to have to look at the same hair style all the time, it's all that works for now (AND I'm comfortable for the first time in years),” Ariana emphasizes. “And trust me, it's even more difficult for me to have to wait forever for my natural hair to grow back and to have to wear more fake hair than every drag queen on earth combined.”
One more note for fans from the pint-sized belter: “PLEASE gimme a break about the hair (or just don't look at me lol). IT'S JUST HAIR AFTER ALL. There are way way way more important things.” There sure are! Mums the word from us from now on, we promise!
