Ariana Grande has been hard at work in the studio working on her second album (yes, already!) and by the sounds of things, we’re in for quite a treat! Though she was initially shaken up over Twitter criticism of her style on the red carpet at Sunday’s Grammys, the rising R&B star bounced back to fill us in on some exciting new developments on her music… including a duet with someone “unexpected.” Oo, tell us more!
For her sophomore album, Ari is bringing back her hit-making team of producers (Babyface, The Rascals) — with a few exciting additions. Among those she’s most excited about (and rightfully so) is the man with the golden touch, Max Martin. For those unfamiliar, this is the genius behind the majority of hits from Britney Spears, Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, Pink and many more.
“I love working with him,” she said of the one-man hit factory. “He’s like a mathematician. He knows music like math. It just makes sense to him.”
In addition, the 20-year-old name drops some other heavy-hitters like Savan Kotecha (One Direction), Benny Blanco (Maroon 5), and OneRepublic’s Ryan Tedder. But the most exciting tease is about some new music that isn’t actually appearing on her album.
“I just had a meeting yesterday with an artist that I love,” Ariana begins. Can she say who? “No, I’m not allowed yet, but he asked me to feature on a song of his, and I’m very excited about that. It’s an unexpected collaboration but I think that’s what makes it so cool.”
Okay, so all we know so far is that it’s a male outside of her usual R&B territory — maybe somebody country? Can someone get Hunter Hayes on the phone and ask if it’s him?
