American Idol is heading into Hollywood Week next week and, as per usual, the spoilers are flowing like wine. If you prefer not to know what some of the singers will be performing, you might want to avert your gaze, as spoiler hub The Idol Pad (via American Idol Net) has published a list of some of Hollywood's song choices.
Those who do want to know will likely be pleased with what they see below. In comparison to previous seasons, the songs are quite contemporary. (Honestly, if we never hear "At Last" or "Fever" during Hollywood Week again, it will be too soon.) Much of the credit for the more modern choices goes to a reportedly wider song selection. And, if TIP's spoilers are correct, some of these folks choose interesting songs indeed.
A few of the choices include: Majesty Rose performing "1, 2, 3, 4" by Feist, Spencer Lloyd singing "Say Something" by A Great Big World featuring Christina Aguilera, and Kenzie Hall taking on "Can’t Hold Us” by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis featuring Ray Dalton.
Compare these to some of the song choices from last year. Contestants performed the likes of "Georgia On My Mind" by Ray Charles and "Until You Come Back To Me (That's What I'm Gonna Do)" by Aretha Franklin. True, there were plenty of odes to former Idols like Jordin Sparks and Carrie Underwood, but the song choices didn’t seem to have the same hot off the radio vibe as they do this season.
Other artists permitted during Hollywood Week include Adam Lambert, David Guetta, Ariana Grande, Blake Shelton, and Flo Rida. Also on the very long list: all three judges. Sure hope people pick a song by Harry, J. Lo, or Keith. We can hardly wait to hear the comments.
What do you think? Are current song choices the way to go, or keep with the classics? Weigh in with your opinion in the comments!
