The Eastern Oklahoma Woodcarvers Show, "Woodcarver's World" has been an annual event in Tulsa for 36 years. It had it's beginning in area shopping malls and has progressed to a "stand alone" venue.
The 2013 show will be held again at the Union 8th Grade Center. On Friday June 14th the show is open from 10 a.m until 7p.m and on Saturday, June 15th from 10 a.m until 5 p.m. Admission is $3.00. Children 12 and under are free with a paid adult.
On Friday, there is a Judged Competition in 55 different categories, which will include woodcarving, wood burning, wood turning and scroll saw artistry. Visitors will be able to vote for their favorite artistic piece.
Each day at 1 p.m there will be an informative seminar on a unique type of chip carving by Warren Rauscher. One of the more popular events in the Beginning Carving Class at 2 p.m each day for new carvers 13 years old and older. Tools and carving project will be furnished.
On Saturday at 11 a.m there will be a carving contest. Competitors from the show will be given a blank to carve in one hour and fifteen minutes using only one tool. This contest has always had great spectator interest.
For our 37th Annual Show, the featured artist will be Tulsa Rusty Johnson.
Rusty became interested in wood carving while working as a camp counselor for the Boy Scouts. When he sought more knowledge on tools and techniques, he joined the Eastern Oklahoma Woodcarvers. He has also studied art and carving in European Art Schools.
His work has been included in juried art shows such as Vision Makers and Oklahoma Friendly. Most recently he was included in the Tulsa Artists Studio Tour.
Besides winning awards in many area woodcarving shows, he has won awards at the prestigious, International Woodcarvers Congress, at the Annual Competition of the Caricature Carvers of America, and at the Wood Carving Illustrated Annual Carving Design Competition.
In addition to having art work for sale, there will be vendors selling tools, wood, and supplies.
The Blue Star Mothers will have a display and will be collecting items for our Service Men and Women.
