Now in it's 11th year, this annual event has become the must attend party of the year in the Tulsa area. It has been so popular that it has now officially lasted longer than the 80’s! What began as a small retro themed party in the early 2000’s, is now one of the most anticipated events of the year for local club-goers and 80’s music lovers from around the nation. Overly elaborate costumes, celebrity impersonators, three rooms of dancing, fashion shows, stage acts, and a plethora of other surprises ensure that this will be a night that you will not soon forget!
The 80's Prom has grown steadily over the last eleven years from roughly 100 people in attendance to over 1,000. The event has moved through several venues around Tulsa to accommodate its growing numbers, this year we will remain at the only place in Oklahoma that can cater to our event. With three dance floors, three bars, three stages, experienced bartenders and a professional staff. The IDL complex (IDL Ballroom, ENSO, Electric Circus) allows us the ability to bring you the ultimate 80’s experience, with each room’s decor and music capturing a special vibe from the decade.
80s Prom consists of outrageously dressed club goers and themed events throughout the night. You will find an assortment of eighties characters in attendance. The event has seen everyone from Karate Kid to Teen Wolf, and Billy Idol to Madonna. Attendees are encouraged to pick a favorite character from the era, or just dress in the style of the times. The evening also includes a fashion show featuring the designs and costumes of local retailers. Not just any ordinary fashion show, this performance highlights the movies and iconic characters from the era. Last years production brought you characters from Weird Science, Back To The Future, Labyrinth and The Karate Kid among others. Original soundtrack hits and clips from the movies complete the experience.
We have continued to work next to local independent record stores, vintage clothing stores, restaurants, zines, theaters & more. We attempt to support and promote the local based businesses and hard workers that make our city a great place to live. In addition to being a celebration of a decade, it is also a celebration of all the great people who make up our community.
The event also features "retrovision", a larger than life 80’s video installation. There will be a photo area complete with an authentic prom backdrop where anyone can commemorate their prom night. The best dressed will have a chance to hit the stage and compete to be the annual 80's Prom King & Queen. The King and Queen will receive the honor of being crowned in addition to a prize package including various treats from local businesses.
Our DJ line up this year will be consisting of DJ’s and friends that have played an important role in the Oklahoma dance community over the past several years...while their personal music tastes may differ, this event is an all 80's soundtrack provided by some of Tulsa and Oklahoma City’s most sought after DJ's. DJ’s Sean Kibble and Lynn K will be in IDL Ballroom. This large space will host the traditional flavor of an 80’s Prom, playing pop and club hits. The stage will also feature a variety of stage acts, the king and queen costume contest, retro 80’s video manipulation and a few more surprises. DJ’s Robbo, Sokmonkey and Bone will be providing the tunes for the underground party in Electric Circus. Electric Circus with it’s dark nightclub feel will play a unique role in this year’s event catering to New-Wave, Post-Punk, Darkwave and underground electronic sounds of the decade. This room will be reminiscent of the beginning years of the event. Enso will serve as a space to take a break from all the action and pay attention to that special someone you have been making eyes at. Enso will be hosting the slow dance romance room, a special place to test your fate and make the night a truly memorable one.
